Grand Jury Indictments Announced in Five Cases

The Office of the State Attorney announces five indictments brought forth by the Lake County Grand Jury.

  • Defendant Michael Lee Anderson, 31, has been indicted for:

Count I: First Degree Murder

The defendant was indicted for first-degree murder resulting from distribution of a controlled substance to the victim on or about August 9, 2018 in Lake County.

Assistant State Attorney Ryan Williams, will be prosecuting the case.

  • Defendant Matthew Perez, 33, has been indicted for:

Count I: First Degree Murder

The defendant was indicted for first-degree murder for shooting his father in the chest on or about May 5, 2020 in Lake County.

Assistant State Attorney Nicholas Camuccio will be prosecuting the case.

  • Defendant Maurice Benn Jr., 19, has been indicted for:

Count I: First Degree Murder

The defendant was indicted for first-degree murder for shooting the victim in the head on or about June 19, 2020 in Lake County.

Assistant State Attorney Nicholas Camuccio will be prosecuting the case.

  • James Porteous, 57, has been indicted for:

Count I: First Degree Murder

Count II: First Degree Murder

Count III: Arson

The defendant was indicted for two counts of first-degree murder and one count of arson for shooting two victims multiple times in the head and setting the house where their bodies were found on fire, on or about July 7, 2020 in Lake County.

Assistant State Attorney Nicholas Camuccio will be prosecuting the case.

  • Michael Riley, 27, has been indicted for:

COUNT I: Second Degree Murder

The defendant was indicted for second-degree murder for causing blunt force trauma to be inflicted upon the victim's head or neck area on or about June 18, 2020 in Lake County.

Assistant State Attorney Nicholas Camuccio will be prosecuting the case.
