Lake County Man Found Guilty of Multiple Sex Offenses Against Child

Joshua Ruben Herrera, 28, was found guilty at trial of committing sex offenses on a child under 12 on multiple occasions. He will serve 25 years to life in prison.

In 2016, Herrera was arrested by Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies after the victim, who was under the age of 12, reported to officials that she had sexual contact with Herrera on multiple occasions. She said she thought of Herrera like a boyfriend and wanted him to think of her as being mature. Herrera also showed the victim photos and videos on his phone to demonstrate sex acts.

Herrera was found guilty of three counts of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation on a Child Under the Age of 12 by a six-person jury. The minimum sentence he can receive is 25 years in prison followed by lifetime sex offender probation. The maximum sentence is life in prison.

Assistant State Attorneys Shannon Schlarf and Kaitlyn Macomber prosecuted the case.
