sub-page

The State Attorney is constitutionally charged with the duty to see that the laws of Florida are faithfully executed. He is the chief prosecuting officer of all criminal trial courts in his respective circuit, and with the aid of appointed assistants and staff, he appears in all of the Circuit and County Courts within his judicial circuit. The State Attorney provides personnel and procedures for the orderly, efficient and effective investigation, intake and processing of all felony, misdemeanor, criminal traffic and  juvenile delinquency cases in addition to statutorily enumerated civil cases that occur within his jurisdiction.

There is a State Attorney elected for each of Florida's twenty judicial circuits. The Office of the State Attorney for the Fifth Judicial Circuit serves a population of more than 1.2 million people and encompasses five counties, including Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion and Sumter.

Your State Attorney, Bill Gladson, leads a team of nearly 240 employees, 115 of which are Assistant State Attorneys. As a former law enforcement officer, and career-prosecutor,  Bill's primary mission is public safety. Bill and his team of professionals work every day with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure the members of the communities he serves are safe, and that crime victims get the justice they deserve.

“I am dedicated to holding people who commit crimes accountable for their actions. Working with our community partners, together we can make our neighborhoods safer for our children and families.” – Bill Gladson.
